Douglas R. Griess, Esq.
Douglas Griess’s practice began with Baldwin & Carpenter, P.C., a well-respected small litigation boutique firm that focused on insurance defense. Because of his skill and capacity, Mr. Griess was assigned a wide array of cases from personal injury to commercial disputes representing both plaintiffs and defendants, thereby obtaining a uniquely balanced skill set and perspective on the litigation process. Following his passion to build a practice advising and working with small businesses to proactively build value and avoid unnecessary disputes, Mr. Griess joined Dymond • Reagor • Colville, LLP to gain experience working on transactions while continuing to litigate. His passion then led Mr. Griess to start The Griess Law Firm, LLC at the end of 2010 where he has built a broad client base that includes working with manufacturing, distributing, construction, technology, and professional service companies and their owners.
Mr. Griess engages in various teaching opportunities including presenting at local workshops, national trade associations, and providing professional education credits to lawyers and other professionals through the National Business Institute. Courses he has contributed to include LLCs from A-Z, LLCs from Start to Finish, and LLC Indemnification, where he addresses issues such as legal, regulatory, and registration compliance, Operating Agreements, company structure, and member/manager fiduciary duties and obligations.
Mr. Griess volunteers at the Legal Aid Clinic at the Denver Rescue Mission, is on the Advisory Board of the Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Clinic, is an allied attorney with Alliance Defending Freedom where he volunteers in aid of religious freedom rights, and is an Elder with his church. Mr. Griess is admitted in Colorado and the Tenth Circuit. He is a member of the American Bar Association Sections on Business Law and Intellectual Property, the Colorado Bar Association’s Business Law Section, and the Denver Bar Association.
Mr. Griess is particularly focused on his faith and family which leads to his emphasis on relationships with clients in his practice. With roots in Wyoming, Douglas lived all over the country and in Italy as the son of an Air Force officer before ending up in Virginia, where he went to Virginia Tech, married his high school sweet heart, and then obtained his J.D. at the University of Virginia School of Law. While he spent some time working in Washington, D.C., after law school, he and his wife came back West to Denver, Colorado to be near immediate and extended family. He and his wife Laurie live in Centennial with their five children.
